What it is
A glycerine-filled gauge has its case filled with glycerine. The liquid damps the movement of the pointer and lubricates the moving parts.
It reads more steadily and lasts longer than a dry gauge on pumps, compressors and hydraulic lines.
How it works
The glycerine surrounds the movement and slows sudden pointer swings, so the reading is easier to take. It also keeps moisture out of the case and reduces wear on the gears.
Where it is used
- Pumps and compressors
- Hydraulic power packs
- Engines and generators
- Machines with strong vibration
Things to consider
- Not for oxygen or strong oxidising media. Tell us if your medium is one of these and we will suggest a suitable gauge.
- Very cold or very hot conditions can thicken or thin the fill. Tell us the working temperature.
- A snubber is still advised for severe pulsation.
What to tell us for a quote
- Gauge type and dial size
- Pressure range and unit (bar, kg/cm², psi, kPa)
- Connection type and size
- Material of the wetted parts (CS, SS or SS 316)
- The medium and its working temperature
- Quantity and any special need
Questions about glycerine-filled gauges
Why choose a glycerine-filled gauge over a dry gauge?
The fill damps pointer movement and lubricates the mechanism, so the gauge is easier to read and lasts longer where there is vibration or pulsation.
